Workshops
Tri-Color Gum over Palladium & Silver Gelatin Fiber Prints
About the Workshop
A unique workshop taught by three teachers with over 60 years of combined experience for people wanting to learn Gum Bichromate over Platinum Palladium and Silver Gelatin printing in a way that reduces the complexity and takes away the mystery of the process. The Workshop will take place in Gowanus Darkroom in Brooklyn NY around the end of February with a class size of 20 people maximum.
Tri-Color Gum Over Palladium
Gum bichromate over palladium printing is a specialized variant of the gum bichromate printing process, which combines the palladium process with the gum bichromate technique. The first layer applied is a palladium solution to the paper, exposed to UV light and developed. Palladium is a noble metal that that is archival and provides the basis for the rest of the color gum layers.
Once the palladium image has been formed, the artist can proceed to apply additional layers of pigments using the gum bichromate process. Each layer adds more depth and color to the print, allowing for artistic flexibility and the creation of unique tones and colors.
To complete a full colour image, we repeat this process for each Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow using a separate digital negative made for each colour.
What You will Learn
Color theory and how to apply it in Photoshop to make color separations.
How to create a linearize a digital negative that can be used for multiple processes.
